Carrot - 2
Onion - 1
Green chillies - 2 (finely cut)
Ginger - 1/4 inch (cut into small pieces)
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Senaga pappu/chana Dal/kadalai paruppu - 1 tsp
Red chilli - 1
Salt - As required
Wash carrots and finely grate them. Cut onion into small square pieces.
Heat oil in kadai, add mustard seeds. When they start spluttering, add the red chilli and senaga pappu and fry. When the pappu starts getting light brown, add the ginger pieces and fry for 4 or 5 seconds. A good smell comes from it. Add the grated carrot and onion and fry for sometime. Add turmeric and salt and fry for a few more minutes. Check if the carrot is cooked and remove from fire.
Tastes very good with plain rice.
